Shanawdithit: The Last of the Beothuk
In a St. John’s parlour in the winter of 1828, a young woman bent over paper and drew the story of her vanished nation. Shanawdithit was the last known Beothuk alive, and when tuberculosis took her the following summer, an entire people went out of the world with her.
